You can be a Delegate for Catesby Jones!
HOW DOES THE NOMINATING PROCESS WORK?
The First District Congressional committee has chosen a convention as the method to pick the
Republican nominee for the Special Election to be held on December 11, 2007.  Click here for a map of the First Congressional District of Virginia.

WHEN AND WHERE WILL THE CONVENTION BE HELD?
At Caroline County High School on Saturday, November 10, 2007.

We need individuals to commit to serving as delegates to this convention. You should plan to be at Caroline County High School by 10:00 AM for delegate registration and plan to stay for the entire day.  We guarantee this will be an exciting experience for everyone involved.
As a delegate, you will be the one making the decision about who will represent the Republican party in the special election.

HOW DOES ONE BECOME A DELEGATE TO THIS CONVENTION?
In order to become a delegate to this convention, you must be elected as a delegate at the mass meeting of your local Republican unit.  These mass meetings will be held on several different dates and times in each of the 23 units which comprise the First Congressional District.  At this time, it
appears that most of the mass meetings will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 around 7:00 PM.

Each local Republican Committee must publish a "call" for its mass meeting.  Because of time constraints, many of those calls may be published as late as the day of the meeting.  While we encourage you to watch your newspaper for the call and for other information about your mass meetings, we recognize that you are busy and like most people, you need to make plans as far in advance as possible.  The Republican Party of Virginia will also be hosting a list of the calls for most of the mass meetings.  You can see the list of calls here: http://www.rpv.org/calls.html .  You can also call your local Republican Party Chair and ask for information about when the mass meeting is scheduled.

A list of local party chairs can be found here: http://www.va1gop.org/#DISTRICT
.
You can also contact the campaign by e-mail volunteers@catesbyforcongress.org  to ask for more information.  If you let us know that you want to be a delegate, we will make sure to keep you informed about the process in your local area.

In order to be a delegate, you must meet the criteria set forth in the Official Call of the Convention, which you can read here:

HOW DOES A MASS MEETING WORK?
A mass meeting is similar in nature to the old New England-style town hall meetings or to the Iowa caucuses.

Each mass meeting will be organized and run by the local Republican unit using rules that must be approved by a majority of the mass meeting participants.

Each mass meeting will provide for registration at a certain time right before the meeting.  MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARRIVE EARLY ENOUGH BEFORE THE MEETING TO REGISTER.  In order to participate, you must be a registered voter in the jurisdiction covered by that local unit.  You also must meet the criteria for membership in the Republican Party, which is set forth in each unit's call.  As a general matter, this means that you must be willing to state that you are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and that you intend to support all of nominees of the Republican Party in the ensuing election. You also may be prohibited from participating if you have participated in the nomination process of any party other than the Republican Party after March 1, 2004.

Once you sign up to participate in the mass meeting, you will need to stick around and vote on the election of delegates to the Convention.  This process will vary somewhat within each Unit.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE MASS MEETING?
Once you are elected as a delegate, your name will then be submitted along with all the other delegates to the credentials committee for the First District Republican Committee. You can then go to the convention and vote for Catesby Jones.
